meaning:
city: minneapolis is home. it’s home for family and friends. home to awesome parks and restaurants and activities. it’s playful, healthy, artsy and progressive, with new places and spaces to check out all the time. the city is a busy place, reminding me of myself. wanting to be occupied. needing community. looking to expand.
trees: the forest is a strong and alluring place. it offers open space and solitude. with evergreens, the only trees to make it through the beautiful four seasons of Minnesota weather, to add color and texture to the landscape. life is visible here. sprouting. the forest is a place to find rest. find god. find myself.
city and forest reflection: alone, they are significant. together, they represent the important balance and the tension in life. for people, activities and community. for space, solitude and reflection. and the need for both.

I remember one day long ago I strongly advised you never to get a tattoo. I take that back. What a powerful work of art! LOVE! Can I see it in person before you leave?

Thanks Jen. I’m glad you’ve changed your mind. Let’s try and make something work in person.

Hey man, I’ve fallen in love with your tattoo, and I’ve got a question for you:
    – Would you mind if I got a rework of that tatto, but with Gothenburgs Skyline/monuments instead of minneapolis skyline?

It’d probably happen sometime during 2014, I don’t know exactly when, but I’ll definitely send you pics of it if I’m doing it and I’ll give you credz for coming up with the idea.

Would mean alot to get your blessing for it :)

Cole, I was admiring your work and would love to use the same concept in my next project. I would however infuse mountains as well as forest and I would use New York city skyline. Is that alright?

I always show this to all my friends saying this is the exact tattoo I want but with a different city as the skyline. I’m originally from Portland Oregon and where I love the city there I also have a love for the outdoors so yeah I’m going to have to try and have someone in the Louisiana area do the same design just with my city to help remind me of home. Thanks for sharing your art and inspiring me!

Digging the tat. Gave me an idea for my tattoo. I plan on only doing the woods portion of it. I’m from a smaller town in canada and love spending time in the woods. Which is all around my tiny town. Just a forearm tree sleeve.
